Overview

Ati Raja stands as a hallmark of Makassar’s vibrant culinary scene, specializing in traditional bakso—a beloved Indonesian meatball dish. Situated on Jl. Gn. Merapi No.170, this Bakso restaurant offers an authentic taste experience that reflects the rich food heritage of Sulawesi Selatan.

The main attraction at Ati Raja is its variety of bakso, ranging from tender beef meatballs to the distinct bakso urat and the house-special bakso ati raja, served both in soup and fried forms. The interplay of textures—the softness of the meatballs paired with the clear, flavorful broth and accented by fresh green onions and a squeeze of lime—creates a balanced and comforting bowl. These are best enjoyed alongside traditional sides such as buras, a local rice cake that complements the dish perfectly.

Aside from bakso, the menu extends to a diverse selection of Makassar favorites: from jalangkote, a savory fried snack, to Nasi Goreng Merah, Mie Goreng Hokkian, and refreshing items like Es Pisang Ijo. This spread highlights Ati Raja’s dedication to offering not just a main dish but an immersive local dining experience.

The restaurant space itself blends a casual, open-concept design with practicality—ample street parking and a musholla are thoughtful additions catering to a wide range of visitors. While the absence of air conditioning can be felt on warmer days, the lively atmosphere and sizable seating area make it a comfortable spot for family gatherings and solo diners alike.

Ati Raja appeals to both locals and travelers seeking authentic taste. With multiple outlets throughout Makassar and the availability of frozen bakso as souvenirs, it extends its reach beyond the city, inviting people to take home a piece of Makassar’s culinary identity.

Customer experiences underscore the consistent quality Ati Raja offers. The fried bakso earns particular praise for its crisp exterior and juicy interior, a must-try for meatball enthusiasts. Compliments on swift service and cleanliness further enhance its reputation, though some reviews note variability in staff attentiveness and friendliness, a common challenge in busy local eateries.

In summary, Ati Raja is not merely a place to eat—it's a destination to experience the bold, familiar flavors of Makassar’s bakso culture, making it an essential stop for food lovers exploring the city’s gastronomic landscape.

Ati Raja is a famous meatball restaurant in Makassar city. Since they receive so much love from the customers both locally and outside Makassar city, Ati Raja also provides the frozen meatball as a souvenir to bring back home. They also have many outlets in this city. This one that I visited was in Gunung Merapi street that has a large space with street parking outside. Musholla is also available. In this outlet, they also sell some snacks and syrup as the typical souvenir from Makassar. Besides meatball, Ati Raja provides the other menu as well. There are fried rice, noodles, kwetiaw, bihun, soto Banjar, otak-otak, and many more. I tried Bakso Ati Raja (IDR 30,000). A bowl of plentiful soft beef meatballs, beef muscle meatballs, nyuknyang in a clear broth with green onions. Served it with lime and if you like spicy, don't forget to add it! You could eat them together with rice or buras. I chose buras (rice cake).

Great meatball, especially their fried meatball. Fair price with their service and clean place. Order their markisa juice and fried tofu to complete your meatball dishes

The authentic bakso from Makassar that you really can’t find anywhere else, definitely a must-try when visiting the city. I ordered the Bakso Ati Raja mix, which came with bakso ati raja, boiled nyuknyang, and fried nyuknyang. The taste is consistently good and never changes over the years. I also tried their pisang ijo, but for me it was nothing special, I didn’t really enjoy the texture of the skin. Their jalangkote was not bad though. Service was fairly quick and the prices are worth it. However, I have to say that while most of the staff were okay, a few of them came across as a bit unfriendly. They also serve a takeaway package that you can bring home as a souvenir, which is a nice touch if you want to share the taste of Makassar with friends or family.
